USMLE® Step 1 Review Course

Very closely. The Review Course is organized into 18 sections based on the USMLE Content Outline, so you work through Step 1 content in a clear, structured sequence. Each section contains 7 question-based levels designed to help you review both foundational knowledge and the reasoning needed to apply it.

Each section contains 7 levels of USMLE-style questions. Levels 1–3 use one-step reasoning, Levels 4–6 require two dependent reasoning steps, and Level 7 contains three-step reasoning questions. Within those groups, questions also differ in how demanding the medical knowledge itself is.

They measure two different things. Reasoning complexity describes how many dependent inferences you need to reach the answer, while knowledge difficulty describes how demanding the underlying medical knowledge is compared with questions of similar complexity. A question can therefore test difficult knowledge in one step, while another may use familiar knowledge across several reasoning steps.

Every question includes an explanation and links to the relevant concepts in the Medcourses medical library. You can review the exact theory you need, revisit related flashcards, and then return to question practice. The goal is to identify the specific knowledge gap or reasoning step that caused the mistake rather than simply memorize the correct answer.
